Sky Credit Card Limit Issues

My other half and I recently applied for the Sky Credit Card. We read up and worked out that, for us, it delivered the eqiuvalent to 1% cashback. We have, for years, had a NatWest Card for Airmiles which we used for days out with the kids but that has now ended and we thought to try something new.

The application process was fine, although you couldn't request a joint cardholder or a direct debit payment request at first, but had to wait til you got your card. We aimed to use the card for ALL our purchases, and with 2 kids, that can be a lot! In the last 12 months we have spent £20k but we pay off in full each month.

We were given a credit limit of £2000. Natwest had given us £6400 and the Nationwide Card that we applied for 2 weeks later (for foreign transactions) gave us £7500.

When we asked for a direct debit form we got a letter saying we couldn't make direct debits from our card (we were trying to pay them!), got 2 lots of skycard cheques within 14 days, one of them after requesting them not to send items like that.

We wrote to Sky putting forward our case, giving a brief SOA asking them to review, or else we would have to cancel the card. They were clearly not interested as they have cancelled the account (not told us yet though!)

Overall -

Marks for Customer Service of 1/10 (they answer the phone at least)

Benefits - 8/10 as they are now bettered (for us) by the Capital One card, which we have applied for now. We're just hoping that another application won't lower our credit rating.

In summary, try it if you are VERY VERY patient and don't use a lot of credit. Here's hoping there are better companies out there who are more interested in our custom!

Their credit limit increases are automatic (as determined by the all-singing all-dancing computer) only. There is no process to manually request for an increase.

They also gave me a low credit limit and I don't think they were willing to consider increasing it. But it went up by £500 a few weeks later without me asking.

I feel I should point out that the cashback can be worth 2% if you treat it as a Stake Returned free bet (see Gambling Introductory Loopholes board!).

Sky card is provided by Barclaycard isn't it?

Yes, Sky Card is provided by Barclaycard. I've had one for a few months now, and I had no problems setting up a direct debit for the minimum payment.

My card came with a £17000 limit and already has been increased twice to £25000 now. They must like me but I dont have a top credit rating by any means??

Wow! That's the highest I've ever known from Skycard. Do you spend near the limit and do you clear the balance in full?

I spend nowhere near the limit, a limit of £2000 would be more than ample. (Always clear in full)

I even phoned them up to reduce the limit but was told its all automated and I can request an increase or decrease manually.
  • 3 years ago I got skycard and had a credit of £1000.

I am disabled and it is very rarely that I get out so my daughter takes me away for a weekend every October to Birmingham to meet old friends some from the USA.
Last years weekend had to be cancelled as skycard WITHOUT my knowledge reduced my credit limit from £1000 - £880, so the weekend was cancelled, I lost all my booking fee's.
This year again the hotel and everything was booked and AGAIN skycard has reduced my credit limit to £700 so once again I have lost everything and again was not told about any reducements on my card.
I phoned skycard and was told that it was the creditors that have made this decision.
So I informed skycard that once I have paid what is owed on my card I will be cancelling my credit card with them and will look elsewhere.

Last month I paid £500 of my card instead of the minimum required, and my reward for this was to be stabbed in the back by them.

I would strongly recomend anyone wishing to get a credit card to STAY WELL CLEAR OF SKYCARD.More so if it is Barclay's that run it.
