Amazon...long wait!

Options
So I ordered a laptop from Amazon and it said estimated delivery date: 5 weeks away! I took this with a pinch of salt as I've ordered with them before and it was then ultimately much quicker than estimated (inside a week).

So a week later the expected email saying its been dispatched has not arrived. I think if the estimated delivered time is true then they should of been upfront about it and said: Not in stock!

Could of gone to PC World etc and picked same model up myself at the same price.

What does anyone else think? Should I cancel the order?

Btw..not sure if this is the right forum for this topic.

I've had similar in terms of being told the expected delivery was a month and then finding it was in stock and being dispatched within a few days, but my item really did arrive.

If I felt like they were messing me around I'd contact Amazon, getting your hopes up for a delivery and possibly messing with your work as you may have requested time off or had to sort something out elsewhere, Amazon normally pride themselves on good customer care and if they are lacking in this I'm sure they'd want to know.

So your complaint is it says says 5 weeks but you think it should say out of stock?
So why order it at all?

Yes, you should definitely cancel if the same model is available elsewhere - you have no guarantee that in five weeks they will not cancel your order and reintroduce the model at a higher price.

Yes the point is surely they should say "out of stock" if its such a wait.
Like I said before I've ordered other expensive items with them, and although the estimated delivery date wasn't quite that long (it was a while) the delivery ended up much quicker than forecast.

I will email them and if it its still going to take over a month will cancel.

It could be that certain items they don't hold in stock but order in from a third party when items are ordered, hence the long lead time. Some people will be happy to wait if it means they get it a bit cheaper (especially if buying in advance for a gift etc).

If you want it quicker then cancel but I don't think you can moan about them as they may do as promised and get it to you within the stated timescale.
  • But if Amazon say the laptop is 'out of stock' then nobody will be able to order it. Whereas if they say '5-6 weeks delivery', the people who can't/don't want to wait can go elsewhere/buy a different model. Whilst the people who don't need the laptop urgently, and are happy to wait a few weeks, can make their order now. Which is a good thing if there's a particularly good offer on at the moment.

Also it's easy to cancel orders on Amazon, as long as they haven't yet been dispatched.
