Free software to shorten MP3?

Hi

Does anybody know any free software I can download that will shorten an MP3?

It seems now even the formerly good free download sites are now bundling their free downloads with loads of other unwanted packages.

Do agree though that you need to be on your toes and make sure you decline all the 'special offers' from download sites nowadays!

I have one on my low spec netbook, called 'mp3DirectCut' - seems to have a small footprint and do the job.

Audacity will open, process, and write MP3 files:
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

You just:

- Highlight the bit you want to chop out
- Hit delete
- Highlight the tail
- Effect > fade out
- Export

One more vote for 'MP3DirectCut' I use it all the time and Its really easy to do the job.
