Moved to cornwall... need to make friends!

My partner and I have moved from worcestershire to Cornwall three weeks ago to be closer to his family and he is Cornish and has always wanted to move back down to Cornwall.
It was a mutual decision for us to move and I'm very happy that we have made the big decision to relocate, and once I'm fully settled i'm sure we can have a fantastic life here.
Only problem is, I'm now unemployed and desperately seeking a new job, and also I have left behind a large group of friends and do not know anybody except for OH's family - who are lovely, but I need to make my OWN friends for my sanity!
So what are some good friend making ideas, I'm 25 years old female. Have joined local gym and went today but it was full of blokes, hoping for some fellow females to keep me company!
I'm just worried i'm going to get lonely and depressed being alone all day until I (hopefully) find work here, have suffered deppression in the past and really would not like to head back there

Is there any classes at the gym i.e. spinning or keep fit? Or is there a Zumba class locally?A good life is when you assume nothing, do more, need less, smile often, dream big, laugh a lot, and realise how blessed you are.

Yes, I'm going to start doing classes next week and hopeful that there will be some ladies for me to chat to at these classes.0

Check out the local library as they often have files of local groups. Do you have a WI locally? A bit diffferent but our local one is mainly younger folk.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0

I've recently joined a gym & classes are full of other ladies and I joined the clandestine cake club, great fun, google it :-)
If you have any weigh to loose (you might if you join the cake club lol), slimming clubs are good.
Lastly parent type groups, if you have any children.0 -
Where in Cornwall are you?0

Join the "meet up" website. Google it. XxxI'm never offended by debate & opinions. As a wise man called Voltaire once said, "I disagree with what you say, but will defend until death your right to say it."
Mortgage is my only debt - Original mortgage - January 2008 = £88,400, March 2014 = £47,000 Chipping away slowly! Now saving to move.0 -
Haha.. this is weird! Maybe you should be my friend soon?! My OH is seriously considering a job in Cornwall that he is in the running for. His family also live in Cornwall and we currently live in Worcester. Just a couple o' years younger than you! DO DO DO DO!!0

Well done for being pro-active about this.
I'm in my 18th house, so not knowing anyone has become something of a habit!!
You're doing the right things - join everything, even if you don't think you'll be all that interested. If you meet the same person in two different places, they're a mate!
I would add - develop a regular routine. For example, always go for a coffee at one particular coffee shop at 10.30 on a Thursday, or always walk the dog at 7pm - you'll start to bump into the same people, and if you see them again somewhere else you can say hi and have a chat. Get out and do some gardening, particularly if you have a front garden - people always stop and chat.
I know this isn't 'friendship' as such, but you have to start somewhere!
And don't lose touch with your old friends - my life is littered with old friends that I've lost touch with (17 houses-worth). It's much easier to keep in touch now, with facebook, Skype and so on. And Worcestershire isn't so very far from Cornwall - invite them down for a holiday. No longer a spouse, or trailing, but MSE won't allow me to change my username...0 -
Depends on where you are on what can be suggested, Cornwall is a beautiful County but the areas are very very different.0
