Buying iPad in Canada to bring back to the UK?

Hello all,

I've been considering buying myself an iPad/iPad mini recently, and on the off chance I have just popped into the apple store here in Toronto.

Their cheapest iPad mini is $319, which I've worked out to be approx $360 with their sales taxes, roughly £200.

To me this is a no brainer as iPad minis start at £319 on the UK apple store, but then I started thinking about customs coming back into the UK, I have no idea what the allowance is or what I'd have to pay.

Can anyone help me with this info? I'm here until Monday so can pop back and buy it if I decide to go ahead with the purchase.

Thanks :-)

It will come within your allowance for customs. Obviously dependent on what else you buy. Your allowance is £390.

    Thank you.

I've spent about $20 on things to bring back so far!

Will have a good think about it over the weekend.

My son is living & working in Hong Kong. Almost everyone who has visited him so far has bought an iPad or iPad mini from one of the Apple stores there. They've each saved at least £70 on UK prices. If you're going to buy one anyway  - why not save a few £s. This is MSE after all :p

I thought about buying an iPad in the USA last year and was told by the dealer,

"They only come with 1 years warranty here, compared to 2 years in the UK"

    Does this apply in Canada?:D)

All this assumes it is not a cellular model. The networks are on different frequencies and there is a possibility your chosen UK network may require a frequency that the iPad will not support. You pay the reduced money, and take the risk.

I'm pretty sure the Apple warranty in UK is 1 year.

I'd only be buying a wifi model, not a cellular + wifi, so I assume I don't need to worry?

Apple provides 1 year warranty but the seller HAS to provide minimum 2 years, although the seller may be Apple itself.

I guess in the 1 year any Apple store will help you with warranty, after that you have to go back to wherever you bought it from.

Yeah I realised my mistake last night... The $319 is the first gen iPad mini, the £319 in uk is the 2nd gen mini.

I have an iPhone and so have the USB plug anyway so that doesnt worry me.
