A simple question :
Which is currently the best on-line virus scanner - for use when you are uncertain of the current ability of a normal installed program ??

    ESET
If you have other antivirus, antispyware or antimalware programs running on your computer, they may interfere with the ESET Online Scanner and slow it down. You may prefer to disable any real-time protection components in your other security software before running ESET Online Scanner. Just remember to turn them back on when you're finished!

    Eset or Kaspersky .
I use KIS on PC and the occasional extra check with Eset .The two products that have constantly over many years come out top in many AV- Comparatives tests .

If you have a particular suspect file you can upload it to Virus Total to get the opinion of about 40 different scanning engines.

Thanks - the problem was an installation of "NORTON security scan" that had somehow found it's way on to a C: drive - AGV and Malwarebytes both OK'd it - but I was just making sure that it was a genuine NORTON SECURITY SCAN installation

Apparently NORTON add this to Adobe Flash installations (presumably with a tiny "pre-ticked tick box" then make it very hard to uninstall (Norton uninstaller doesn't touch it !!)
So - in effect - Norton are producing their own (non replicating) Virus and implanting it on PC's without permission......

Any suggestions on how to get rid of this ?

If it appears in control panel programs you can remove it from there.

If only it was that simple
No - it doesn't appear in the CP programs list
And Norton uninstaller / removal tool fails too
    see https://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Internet-Security-Norton/Norton-Security-Scan-how-to-uninstall/td-p/804176
which was posted 4 years ago - with no solution

nb This is NOT on my PC - I am helping out a relative

It wouldn't come with Flash, I think Adobe often bundle in McAfee or the Google toolbar junk.

Are you sure it is actually installed and you aren't just looking at the installation file?

If it is installed you could try installing it again from https://security.symantec.com/NSS/GetNSS.aspx Hopefully it will then sort out the broken install and present itself in add/remove programs.

At best, it would be the other way around.
