Setting up a partnership - HMRC

Hi all,

I'm new to the forum so hope I'm posting this in the right place! I was wondering if anyone could help me with a question about HMRC.

I'm setting up a business partnership with one other person, and filled in the required form on the HMRC website to set up the partnership and register for class 2 NICS.

After submitting the form, an automatic message popped up saying that HMRC would now validate the partnership and post me details of the appropriate taxes that I will be liable for.

They said the process normally takes about a week, sometimes a little longer. However, I submitted the form on April 21st and still haven't heard anything back!

I was just wondering whether anyone else has experienced this, and whether it's normal for them to take longer than they say they will? Would you keep waiting or give them a call?

As you can probably tell, this is the first time I've set up a business so am a complete novice when it comes to these things. Thanks in advance for any advice you can give!

Why not give them a call?

Probably too late now - probably will have to wait until Monday.

There's been a few bank holidays since then which delay things, but i'd be chasing it up next week.

I would give it a couple more weeks, then get in touch.

You probably will not need to pay any income tax until 2016, so you can see that a few weeks will probably not matter much in the scale of things.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I didn't want to ring as I've heard that you're often on hold for ages - but I've finally received my UTR through the post. Happy days!
