Capital One advice - increasing limit

Hi, this is a random one really.

I recently just opened a new Capital one account, and I hadalready had an existing account for about 3-4 years. I opened this new one forthe cheaper interested to clear off my account. Last week I called them askingto increase my limit so I could transfer my vanquis card over as the % iscrazy.

They said this could not be done etc. I went on to close myoriginal cap one account and that was put on to the new card with the cheaper interest. Now I was meant to be called back about increasing the limit so I could do myvaquis card which never happened.

I have just spoken with them now, and they have gone on totell me that since my lime was increased from the old card it cannot be done aswell as it being a new account. The gist of the convo is I have to wait 8months before my account is review. I explained that you have history of myaccount I don’t go over drawn and pay on time every month over the limit etc.

There saying it’s automated, I find it hard to believe thatthere is not a person that can manually look at an account and make a choice. Hesaid there was another team that can review but they don’t take calls onlyletters.

Is this the standard practice with credit cards companies,is there really nothing I could do. Its almost like they made out that I hadthe choice to do it but buy having the old account consolidated I lost it. whenthis was advised by them.

  • Fairly standard for a new card regardless of your history with them it's a min 6 month wait before they'll consider credit limit increases.

capitalone will never increase credit limit when a customer requests it, they and only they will raise limits if and when they see fit.

Theyve never increased mine. In the time I've had a Vanquis card go from £250 to £3000 my Capital One has stayed at £200. Useless piece of cr4p!

I got the Aspire card about 18 months back - its limit has stuck at £10k - I phoned them and got the same answer i.e. there is no manual intervention possible - when the computer says yes, it's a yes. But they can't even ask the computer to make a decision - it thinks for itself and doesn't like to be spoken to.
Never argue with an idiot. Especially not this idiot because I'm always right anyway.

I've had a difference experience with Capital One. I started a live chat conversation with an agent, asking questions about making additional payments mid-billing cycle, and the effect on the account, as the limit wasn't high enough to put all my monthly spending on it. He asked if I would like him to look into an increase, I said yes, and within minutes it was doubled. So, they can interfere with the computer. This was yesterday.

I've had the card since September 2013, so seven statements.

Capital One will increase limits, on request, with some cards, but not the Creditbuilder type, or that used to be the case.

    Where's the live chat option?
  • Oceanscape - I logged into my account with the intent of sending a secured message. Before I could even start typing, the live-chat box popped up.

Lin - This is a credit builder card. I was very shocked that they would look at the limit, given everything I have read about their review procedure. I didn't ask outright, but let's just say I asked some leading questions.

asoe209 - Sorry, this isn't really helping your OP in the immediate future, but given time and good account management, I'm sure Cap. One will give you an increase. In the meantime, to BT from Vanquis, have you looked at the Barclaycard Initial?

    thanks for the responses.

No I have not looked into the barclays cards. I seem to be a bit hit and miss when it comes to cards. I seem to get approved for credit in other place, i.e. when i bought a car 7 years back and DFS sofas 2 years back.

barclays who I bank with turned me down for a card but approved me for a loan.

i think in total i own about 3500 on my 2 cards which is why i just want them all on one card as the vanquis is way to much interest but its all i could get at the time. my accounts are in good order but the way there are with this interest it will take years to pay off and i want them gone asap now.

i dont want to keep applying for stuff thats going to show up on my credit report.
