Electricity "off grid box"

Hi,
Has anyone else received unsolicited calls offering to come and talk and do a survey re an 'off grid box'? Sales patter:- could store power and give you cheap / free evening electricity.
Went on-line and it strikes me this is only of benefit if you have Solar / generator / ground source power - or if you are remote and/or prone to power cuts.
Can't see how it would work - except for making money for the seller so do I want to waste my time seeing these people, however would love to hear any positive or negative experiences.
Thanks for reading!

Welcome to the forum.
What firm? I appreciate you cannot post links when new to MSE but put www dot abc dot co dot UK and we can work it out!!
There are all sorts of battery based solutions from a simple couple of 12v batteries used by Caravans to expensive systems from firms like:

Answer to Cardew - the firm is Maw, it can be found on the internet.
No doubt it is a genuine product but just cannot see how it could be effective in a standard urban property - no idea of costs involved as yet.0 -
In most cases, and generally speaking, the use of batteries as they are today in an on grid property does not make much financial sense. As I can't see any prices or capacities here it's impossible to tell.
One other use to throw out there: if these "free Saturdays" like BG do become more popular, you could charge the battery on that day.
But I doubt the capacity of these 'boxes' will get you far...0 -

The current BG scheme was something I thought of too, although I'm sure there'll be a "fair usage policy" along shortly, if it's not there already.0
