Cheap Energy Club and Addresses

It seems it's beyond the people at the Cheap Energy Club to input addresses correctly.

I live on a road with a lot of flats and live in one myself. I switched to Ovo Energy using the Cheap Energy Club.

Today I discovered:
1. The Cheap Energy Club had given Ovo an address without my door number
2. Ovo had sent a letter to this incorrect address but when it was returned to sender did Ovo did SFA
3. Ovo have my email address and phone number but strangely while they were able to email me a few weeks later to ask for a meter reading, they couldn't contact me to inform me this letter had been returned to them.

I have therefore paid more for my energy then needed due to using an estimate from both my last supplier who were cheaper and to start my Ovo account. Luckily as I was aware I hadn't supplied a meter reading for months, I gave one to my old supplier a few weeks before.

So if you are switching with the Cheap Energy Club make sure you contact your new supplier yourself to confirm that they are taking you on as a customer 3 weeks after you have asked to switch, and confirm they have your correct details.

Apparently as a customer you are suppose to know how things are suppose to work according to the Ovo Customer Service rep I spoke to on the phone.

Did you get an initial email from Ovo within the first few days after you initiated the switch? Several people in other threads have had the same address problem when using the cheap energy club, but because they got their standard confirmation email from Ovo (that included their address) they were able to get it changed straight away and therefore still got their welcome letter in the post.

Of course if you get your welcome letter within that time then there's no need to call them to confirm.

Mine didn't have my address on it.

The only good thing is Ovo didn't set up the direct debit.

    Your email didn't say this:

    Welcome to Ovo!

Thank you for choosing us. You should receive your welcome letter in the post soon. If it hasn't arrived within the next 7 working days, please let us know.

We'll be sending your letter to the following address so if the details are wrong in any way, please let us know as this may stop it reaching you.

(Your address should have been written here)

In the meantime, here’s what will happen next:

    1. Your welcome letter arrives
It confirms your contract agreement and what we'll do to set up your account with us, including how to track your transfer online.

    2. The transfer begins
After your cool off period ends we'll apply for your supply to transfer to us.

    3. Submit your opening readings
A couple of days before we switch your supply we'll ask you for your meter readings. We'll need these to open your account.

    4. You're now an Ovo customer
Your transfer is complete! As part of your contract, we work with Cool Earth https://www.ovoenergy.com/coolearth to protect an acre of rainforest on your behalf.

We're happy to have you onboard!

    The Ovo team

    Nope.

I had to go through it yesterday with the customer services rep on the phone.

  • I see, so you didn't get an Ovo confirmation email at all? Sorry, you said "mine didn't have an address on it" in response to me asking if you'd got a confirmation email from Ovo, so I thought you meant you did get a confirmation email, but that it was just missing your address.
