Transferring money from USA to UK

I need to transfer about £4k from the US to the UK. Paypal is expensive as are US wire transfers. I was wondering if any MSE forumites might have found a cheaper way?

Try Torfx. We transferred to the USA using them. Charged less than our bank and kept us informed of process and progress.

Tor doesn't tell me anything unless I open an account. So I did and it tells me to wait for them to contact me. It didn't appear to be up for moving TO the UK but I'll wait & see.

What do you mean? All three are live and work fine.
And all three are just comparison websites that don't give qoutes and just compare costs at various companies.

Hi Grumbler - I mean that the link as posted was

which doesn't work for me. But shortening it to
http://www.fxcompared.com
gives me the site OK. Yes, I did understand that they are comparison sites and useful. My mention of a quote was that with each entry in the list there is a 'quote' button.

Probably down to different email readers. Your addresses show here in the form (with http://www. removed by me and replaced with xxxx so as to dodge auto rendering)
