Different credit scores

Hi
I have been checking my credit scoring over the last 8 month, but i am now at a point where Experian has given me one score very high and Equifax has given me a low score Fair?

I contacted both and asked why and they both said thats how they rate my credit score.

My question is, what happens when someone checks my credit scoring which are they to beleive?

Also if I was to be refused credit could I ask them to check Experian as they have given me the higher score?

Thanks for your help

Since no one but yourself can see the credit score, it really doesn't matter.

Hi and welcome to the forum

When a potential lender performs a credit check on you they do not see the score that experian or equifax will sell to you. They do not see experian/equifax's judgement as to whether you are a high, fair or poor credit risk.

Potential lenders assess the raw data from your credit file only (along with the other information you have provided on your credit application).
Some lenders will check just one agency, some will check 2 and others will check all 3. You cannot dictate which they check, it will be down to which agencies they subscribe to and their internal policies.

So ignore the score/rating - you need to check whether the data on your file is accurate.

There's a whole host of infomation on these boards you can search regarding credit scoring.

Bottom line though is that the numbers generated by the credit reference agencies are pretty meaningless. Each lender will have its own criteria against which it measures your suitability as a customer.

Follow the general rules for increasing your credit worthiness and don't worry about the "score"

To answer your question, nobody ever checks your "credit score " as you do not have a credit score and never have done. Do yourself a big favour and stop paying for these "scores" as they are a waste of money as you can now see from them being totally different made up numbers.

You can't ask lenders to check a specific file when assessing your application.
