Replacing external doors

Hi all,
I'm looking to get my front and back doors replaced. It's been suggested to use composite doors as they have the look of wood but the strength of UPVC (which I don't like the plastic look of).
I've had a quote from a self employed joiner (I know his wife so at least know he's trustworthy, all these cowboy builders programs make me feel very nervous of hirign anyone!) and have had a quote of £950 for the front and £880 for the back. This is to supply and fit the door.
I've never had this type of work done before so any information on the fairness of these quotes is appreciated.
thanks

It does make quite a difference where you are in the country.
You can just google composite door and see the sort of prices. Including the frames, it might cost £500-£1,000 for the Frame and door themself. Fitting - might get them both done in a day, or possibly 2.
So maybe just ask exactly what make of door and which doors those quotes cover. See if you can find how much they will cost.
But the quotes don't sound too bad. And to be honest, if it is someone you are confident you can trust, I would take that every day of the week over someone who is a couple hundred £ cheaper that you don't know!
Composite door is definately the right choice, they do look good!0 -
Am up in the North East of Scotland, think everythings a bit more expensive here than most places.0

I think they sound ok. DH is a SE joiner and he fits these all the time. He usually says anywhere between £700 and £1100 depending on what door, glass and furniture you want.Officially in a clique of idiots0
