Need to change car tax from disabled to petrol.. Just been told that this can now be done at the post Office..?!

Always had to go queue up in a smelly, stuffy LVLO to change it.

Seeing as how they have closed all the stuffy, smelly, local DVLA offices you can now do it by post.

IIUC everything including a V70 has to go to Swansea - if you can do it at a Post Office that's good - but I think not.

Happy to be proved wrong of course.

The Post Office has taken on many of the tasks that the local DVLA offices used to do. Last year I worked on the software that connected the Post Office systems to the DVLA systems to implement the new functionality.

Vehicle tax issuing Post Office branches are able to notify DVLA of changes to taxation class and reissue the tax disc. You will need to bring in your vehicle registration document (V5C or V5C – Part 2 if just purchased the vehicle) and the relevant evidence supporting the taxation change. You also need to bring in your MOT/GVT/PSVC if required, which need to be valid for the date the tax disc is to commence.

Does that mean that if I only have the new keepers part rather than the whole V5C in my name that they can't do it?

When did you buy the car? if its under 2 months yes they can still do it at no additional cost. If its over 2 months then you will have to fill a V62 and it will cost you £25.

Sorry just re-read the questions again.. you can still do it from that slip as long as its under 2 months purchased.

Spoke to guy in Post Office and you can indeed change tax class FROM disabled to petrol/diesel/PLG etc..

Been able to do it since end of June 2013.
