Hi Guys,
I just got a call from 01159338000. It said something like "This is a free message, to hear the message press 1, to reject it press 9".
Stupidly, I pressed 9 before I had a chance to think about what I was doing. I just hope that I haven't authorised a premium rate charge or something like that. If they phone again I will simply hang up.
Thought it was worth letting you know in case you get the same.

Edit to update: I just phoned TalkTalk to check if I'd been scammed out of any money, and I haven't - phew! In fact, it was very useful because she offered me a free service for 'last call barring'. So once that's gone through, I can bar any nuisance calls. Plus, she offered me a small discount for the next couple of months. So it's ended well - but if this happens again I will hang up, rather than press an option they give. It's probably safer that way.

When you talk down to others it says more about you than them.

Looks like some people are saying it is a legitimate answering service - Esendex.
"Esendex is a provider of text messaging services to a large number of UK businesses, who use our services to communicate with their staff and customers. Typical uses include appointment reminders, delivery notifications and service updates. In some cases these organisations send messages as voice to a landline, where they don't have a mobile number for the customer. If you listen to the message in full you should be able to find out why you have been contacted and if any further action is necessary."
Maybe a message for you if it is from them x0 -
In that situation I would call them back and ask what it's about. I would have hung up without choosing an option.0

Thanks guys. I'm so relived not to have been scammed. Even though they may well be legit, I think I'll leave it alone. If they want to tell me something, they'll have to phone in the normal way. Even if this one is fine, sadly it's probably best to learn to err on the side of caution.

I had a message like that from AO.com when I was getting a freezer delivered... It rang back and left the message on my voicemail. Not sure what the number was though, sorry!0

My guess is that most of the time it's probably either genuine, or perhaps marketing/spamming at worst. I wouldn't want to make you or anyone think they've been scammed. But when I thought about it afterwards, I did think that it's crazy to press a number I'm told to press, by someone I don't know. I just don't know enough to be certain it's safe. So although it probably is, I'm going to just hang up another time. At least that way I know I won't have 'agreed' to anything.

It also lets them know they have a live number if it's marketing. Another reason not to press anything.0

Unfortunately, I think they'd know that anyway, from the fact it was answered?
I guess because we're compers, and answer the phone just in case it's a win, we are more susceptible than others to them finding out our numbers are live...0 -
