Parking Eye at South Tyneside Hospital

I've received a PCN from them following parking at South Tyneside Hospital.
Unfortunately I've already submitted my appeal before I've read this forum so haven't followed the template letter but here's my circumstances and I'd be really grateful on opinions.
We went to the A&E at 10.30pm as my daughter was suffering a concussion following a fall of her roller skates. I had the money to park and tried to buy a ticket, but the machine required me to enter my car registration into a keypad which was at really low level and as it was dark and because of the poor lighting and lack of back-lighting on the screen or the keypad it was really difficult to enter the reg. At the same time my daughter was being sick and slurring her speech so I abandoned trying to deal with the parking machine and took my daughter into the A&E.
I've subsequently received the PCN which I have appealed online using pretty much the above explanation. So far I have had no email confirmation from Parking Eye acknowleding their receipt of my appeal so I am a bit concerned it hasn't gone through but I am not sure how to check this.
Also I've noted the PCN is based on ANPR and this must be linked to me entering my reg number into their machine and I understand that they have only 14 days in cases relating ANPR. The parking was on 13/4/2014 but I didn't receive the PCN until the 2/5/14.
So in summary:-
Is there a way I can check my online appeal is being processed or should I just follow up my original online appeal with a written appeal based on the template
Am I correct in assuming that their PCN is invalid in any case as they have exceeded the 14 day window ?
Cheers

1) there is no reason why you cannot appeal again although you have already appealed so should wait for their response
2) unfortunately , you have got 2 ideas mixed up (many people do)
the 14 day rule is for compliance with POFA 2012 , if it does not reach the RK in time then it fails pofa 2012 but is still a valid pcn where they can pursue the driver , so as long as your appeal didnt mention who was driving (but I bet it did because you will have used words like "I did this" etc) then you can use pofa 2012 to deny telling them driver details
its still a valid pcn for 6 years however, under the small claims court service as its an invoice that they can and do chase up
ideally you need to complain to PALS and the trust and get the charge cancelled , that is the best way forward
if you had an auto acknowledgement of the online appeal then you are awaiting the decision , ie:- cancellation or a popla code
the idea that a pcn is or can be invalid is largely incorrect unless you have evidential proof in a court of law, it can be deemed to not meet pofa 2012 but then that just means it reverts back to pre pofa 2012 rules , some companies dont even bother with pofa 2012 , relying on contract laws and trespass laws etc instead0
