Received Barclays credit card, then two days later received a rejection letter

in Credit cards
Hi there!
I applied for a credit card with Barclays and received it along with my pin, however when I went to peel off the paper for my pin number, I accidentally tore the number but thought I could still kind of make it out. I went to the cash machine and tried it, but entered it incorrectly a number of times and it swallowed my card.
The next day I went in to the Barclays branch and used the free phone to request a new card and they said that was fine and went through all my details with me and sent my card out, however when I got home, there was a letter saying that unfortunately I had not been approved?
Do you think this means I can use the card or not when it arrives?
I know it is just an easier option to phone the bank than ask on here but I have ran out of 0800 calls on my mobile and I have no time to go to the bank.
Thanks!

that's a strange one.
i don't think there is anything to lose in just calling them to ask/discuss.0 -
Barclays strike again. All that glitters is not gold.0

There should be a sticky about this!0

You sure you didn't call up and inadvertently make a second application? You say you may have misread the PIN, and while Barclays have pulled this stroke before, I'd definitely give them a call to confirm either way.0

That's Barclaycard unfortunately. They seem to have started up this again - we hadn't heard about it for a while on here then someone else had the same thing happen to them last week.
I speculated on possible reasons but having worked in the card industry a long time ago, couldn't come up with anything solid.
But, plenty more fish in the sea as they say.Never argue with an idiot. Especially not this idiot because I'm always right anyway.0
