It might be worth staying one night then in Mull. Any recommendations for anywhere ? I fancy seeing the seals on the boat trip but not too sure what else really .Oh heck isnt it awful I know so little about my own country !

If your staying on Mull on a budget most of the B&Bs outside Tobermory are good value. The boat to the Tresnish Isles leaves from Ulva Ferry so you may want to bear that in mind. Well worth doing though. I went five years ago as a surprise birthday treat and it was fab.

i can see the Mull ferry from my window so I'll give you a wave. ;)

Actually if you can use your Tesco vouchers for something else you'll find you get money off at Seaworld on the back of parking tickets or your Tesco receipt.

They're not doing that any more unfortunately but you can pick up vouchers for free child entry at Lidl and Atlantis Lesuire. ;)

bit late , you're probably back by now but if you go right through the town to Ganavan the beach there is great, proper sand and a view to die for as well a a wee shop at the caravan park. There is a bloke charging a pound to park but half the time he lets you in anyway. Some weekends there's shinty to watch too.

Fionnphort to Mull is 10 minutes by ferry. Tobermory is in the north-east of Mull and Fionnphort is in the south west - a bus from Tobermory to Fionnphort (changing at Craignure) would take at least a couple of hours.

Thats where we were staying, had a great time, did the rare breeds park, sealife centreand many other things. OH hired a boat for the day and took the kids out to Lismore and surrounding islands (i don't do boats) while i caught my breath.Sorry to say though we tried to book again for next year and were told it will all be gone, planning permission in for houses :( was a beautiful place too what a shame.

  • The Isle of Mull is beautiful, but I would not recommend Posh Nosh in Tobermory. It is cheapish, but not cheap enough for what you are served. For example, the pasta I ordered was so overcooked it was crumbling apart, and it was served with a jar of very recognisable sauce by a well-known brand. I know that this particular sauce has cheese in it, which I don't like, and which was not mentioned at all in the description on the menu, so I asked the waitress to clarify if it had cheese in it. She assured me it didn't, which was untrue and could be very serious in some people's circumstances, so not one to go to if you have any special dietary requirements. The waitress was extremely stressed with the 4 tables so I dread to think what it would be like if it was busy! She also tried to charge us £1.50 for our juice when it was £1 on the menu - a small point, but trying to rip you off all the same. Sorry for going on, but I can honestly say that I am pretty tolerant and have never in my life had a bad experience in a cafe, until Posh Nosh!!

Too late for the OP I know, but for anyone else planning a trip to Oban it is worth spending a day just exploring the town itself - McCaig's folly (the odd looking building overlooking the town) is worth the climb up the hill, and the old Hydropathic centre & sanitorium although in ruins is fascinating.

Also just across the water on Mull is the gorgeous Torosay Castle - walk there and take the narrow gauge railways (the Hebrides one and only railway!) back, and be sure to look at the scrapbooks in the house as they are fascinating. When we were there we ended up helping the owner search through them for information on the Queen Mum's visit because it was just after she'd died and the local paper was planning a feature! The castle is signed from Craignure where the ferry lands.
