Letting agent vetting checks

They do it for the fees.
It's smart for a landlord to get the extra assurance that their tenant is in a good financial position. But let's not be naive here, the letting agent's only concern is the money. that's why they charge £150+ for "credit checks" when these actually cost about £13.0 -
I would be interested to know how you would fare if you were to obtain and print out copies of all 3 credit files (up to date at the time of applying), and hand these in when looking for rentals. Noddle is free and it's £2 each for experian and equifax, so £4 as opposed to letting agent's £150.0

they would refuse them coming up with sum bullDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0
