New toilet and sink quote

I've found it fairly difficult to get a plumber to quote as I don't think the job is big enough.
Have had a quote to fit a new toilet and compact sink unit (supply and fit) in the downstairs cloak room.
Plumber has come back to me today and quoted £725 which I think is steep, but as I haven't had any other quotes to compare I can't gauge it.
Is this fair?

Thanks.

I'm not a plumber, but how much of that is labour and how much are the toilet and sink costing? Any half decent plumber would also tell you the scope of work involved. Will the new items connect directly where the old ones are, or is some pipework involved?
Ask around local friends and/or neighbours to see if they can recommend a plumber to give another quote, or try one from the local advertising you will inevitably get pushed through your door regularly.

I haven't had a breakdown, I will ask for one, thank you.

No new pipe work should be needed, the existing pipes work just fine. The only thing would be connecting the new sink to the old pipes. The rest, as far as I can see, is easy.

I have to admit, I didn't think it would be that much. I can get the sink for £100 on eBay, and toilets look to be around £70. If that is right, it's over £500 labour!

Will try and contact other people.

    Thanks.

Your location plays a big factor if your in London you pay big $$$ but if your up north you won't pay anywhere near the same amount.

I'm in the South East, so expensive but not quite London prices.
I've had another quote to just fit the new units (and remove the old) for £150. I can get the new sink and toilet for £160 delivered. So, big, big saving there!
  • Today I paid £90 for a toilet and basin to be removed and new ones fitted.

I purchased the toilet and basin myself at Victoria plumb.
