What about Council Tax - did you have arrears on that, & was his name on the bill?

no never ever had arrears on anything on household bills as everything is in his name this is what we carn't understand , he has paid everything on the dot he hates credit hardly uses his credit cards they are just there for emergencys or like booking hols on line or phone and then he usually uses his bank card anyway , maybe as we have been linked together for so long , 25 years i dont know what it is and why , we was told when i went b/r they diddn;t think it would affect him but it has , he has never owed a penny in his life we are the exact opposites , ( but that is what they say attracts dont they)

Have you checked his credit file? If a link is incorrectly recorded, you can ask to have it removed.
