i complained before the install had taken place but it was impossible to escape. not even under the grounds of his position.

that for me is daylight robbery and is why i companies like that do not deserve to exist.

If your father cancelled prior to installation he would have had absolutely no problem. Bg are more expensive but if he had quotes for 1500 why did he opt for 3500?

With regard to the energy, which is a very seperate business arm, comparing suppliers on your usage obviously is an extremely thin slice of the spectrum. I would say that bg have been totally shafted by complying with ofgem and customer demands to reduce and simplify tarrifs as they did and and nobody followed suit leaving them high and dry. Its been a very good lesson that the public really have got no idea when they are better off.

I must admit I would be over joyed to get on bgs highest gas tarriff if they would run a pipe to my house to replace my lpg. Like a few hundred thousand other lpg users I feel just a little bit sick when I hear natural gas users whinging about their comparitively dirt cheap energy.

and as for my fathers situation at the time he was recently bereaved and BG told him they could not continue the maintenance contract on his old boiler. his head was not in the right place and BG took full advantage of his situation.

I can relate to this fully. A good few years ago I had a British Gas service contract and every few months or so they would send me a letter reminding me that while they still had a stock of parts for my boiler they might at some stage find it difficult to get certain parts if needed. When they came to do the service they took the boiler to bits, condemned it and more or less piled the bits inside and refused to put it together again. So, it was impossible to get a second opinion and anyway, nobody at all will touch a boiler that British Gas has condemned because they risk being struck off from doing gas work. Anyway, the British Gas engineer (some people call them salespersons) simply said someone would be in touch to give me a quote for a new boiler and indeed they did, over the telephone without even visiting me again. Needless to say I got other quotes well under half and have never been a British Gas customer again.
If money saving starts to involve irritation or frustration the fine line between thrift and greed should be examined.
