Is Halifax the Bank Of Scotland in England?

I recently applied for a Bank of Scotland 0% transfer card so I can transfer my capital one card balance to it as the apr on that is extortionate. I didn't think I'd be accepted due to my crap credit but I was!
(I used the MSE eligibility tool and it recommended it, love this site! )

But now I need to hand in ID into a Bos branch but I'm living in Chester at the moment and the online branch finder doesn't even recognise chester as a place!
There is however a Halifax branch here and I remember my mum using the Halifax site for online banking although she banks with Bos.

So as my title asks, would they be able to take my ID or am I going to have to head to Scotland? ;)

I'm not sure about the Halifax bit, but there are definitely BoS branches dotted around the country, so I don't think you'll have to visit Scotland!

Ah looks like it is. I just called their telephone banking and their branch locater came up with the Halifax in town. I wonder why it doesn't work on their online locator?
Ah well, least I know now.

Lloyds have tried to separate the Halifax and BOS brands but there is the slight issue that Halifax is legally nothing more than a brand name for BOS.

Halifax is a company in its own right.
  • Wholly owned subsidiary of HBOS, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Lloyds. As is BoS. I think. It's probably just a tax dodge.
In favour of banks that serve society rather than society serving banks! If you agree, please Google epetitions 64050 and sign.

In short. Yes you can take your Id to the Halifax. They will photocopy it, certify it and send it off.
