Npower taking money whenever !

I've been married to my wife almost three years ago, she told me at that time that Npower drove her mad with high bills and taking money from her bank account at will (on one occasion £350) ! I took on the Npower DD and linked it to my second bank account (I specifcally used it for this purpose) I found that Npower had been billing my wife for Storage heaters that had been taken out of the house, years before she moved in!
So I agreed the amount with Npower £235 a month and set up a derect debit, this was 11 months ago. The debit was set to come out on the 16th of each month, as I get paid on the15th. For ten months now, every single month !! Npower have attempted to take out (for some unkown reason) £173 on the 8th of each month. They then send me a message telling me they are charging me £6 for lack of funds and then my bank charge me £8 for failing to comply with the DD.
Each month I have to complain for about an hour on the phone and re-set the DD every time. They tell me it's a new system ?? I have told them that I will cancel the DD ring and pay by phone each month, to make sure they don't C**k up again, Npower said that my rate would be higher because it was not a DD ?? I can't seem to win with these FOOLS :(

Stick the money in the month before not the day before. Simple.

You should always top up your direct debit account with twice your monthly outgoings each payday - that covers most mishaps (and only requires a single double deposit - it isn't made every month, you just top it up.)

Of course they shouldn't do this but sometimes it is better to choose the easy life and the cheaper option.

At least you are now only losing a pro-rata direct debit discount - once you switch back it will be restored.

Provide regular meter readings to ensure more accurate billing.

You must be provided with advance notice before the supplier may legitimately collect payment via DD. This has to specify the amount and the date paymenet will be collected (It cannot be collected before; it may be collected a few days late) If they have failed, claim direct from your bank using the Direct Debit Guarantee.

Agreeing to pay monthly by Direct Debit is often the cheapest option.

Now to get a little bit off topic here, although not completely as this is a money savings site.

If you got paid on the 16th surely you would have them take the money on the 15th so it is in your account for the longest and keeping you in greater credit for the most part.

You may now go back to the topic in hand where yes they have been out of order!
