3. The Competition commences at 12:00 UK time on 25th April 2014 and all entries must be received by 12:00 UK time on the closing date of 27th May 2014 (the “Promotional Period”).

The trip is a 6 week multi country trip commencing on 23rd June 2014 to 28th July 2014 (or such other dates as Expedia may specify). The prize will consist of economy class flights and hotel room nights for 6 weeks and a limited daily allowance of £50 up to the total prize value of £10,000 for one (1) person. The trip will begin in London and include stopovers in Lisbon, Tenerife, Cape Verde, South Africa, Mozambique, Kenya and India (or such other stopovers as Expedia may specify). Expedia will pay for your travel to London as part of the overall trip cost. The budget for the total cost of the trip will be £10,000 unless otherwise agreed with Expedia.

6. The judging of entries will involve the following process:
6.1 Stage 1 – Public voting All eligible entries will be available for the public to review and vote on via the Expedia.co.uk Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/expedia.co.uk to enable the public to select the shortlist from which the winner will be selected. The public will have the opportunity to critically evaluate all entries submitted and vote a maximum of once per Modern Day Explorer entry during the Promotional Period. Subsequent votes for an individual Modern Day Explorer word or phrase in excess of the stated maximum per entry by a single person will be disqualified. While the public may not vote for an individual entry more than once during the Promotional Period, they may vote for as many entries as they like. Participants are prohibited from seeking to obtain votes by any fraudulent or inappropriate means, including, without limitation, offering prizes or other inducements to members of the public, as determined by Expedia in its sole discretion. Use of script, macro or any automated system to vote or with the intent to impair the integrity of the voting process associated with the competition is prohibited and votes placed (or which appear to have been placed) using any such system may be treated as void. At the end of the Promotional Period, Expedia shall review the results of the public vote and the winner shall be selected, from the 15 entries that have received the most public votes. In the event of a tie where the public votes are concerned, all tied entries will be judged by an independent judge selected by Expedia, whose decision shall be final, who shall break the tie by choosing the entry which is most creative and relevant to the topic of travel, from all the tied entries in question.
6.2 Stage 2 The top 15 entrants will then be asked to submit a short video by 12:00 UK time 29th May 2014 explaining why they believe they should be given the opportunity to become Expedia’s Modern Day Explorer. Expedia and an independent judge will then review and select the winner and 3 other finalists whose entries are most engaging and most clearly reflect the qualities of a Modern Explorer as specified here http://expediablog.co.uk/you-a-modern-explorer/ . The judges’ decision as to the winner of the Competition is final. The 3 finalists do not win a prize but will be on standby if the winner is unable to comply with these terms and conditions or the Winner’s Agreement.
