Mind if I ask if anyone has had problems installing latest ADOBE SHOCKWAVE update from FieHippo onto old budget laptop running VISTA? (SP2 only - SP3 not installed)
Not important at all, old laptop due to die anytime now, so laptop going into meltdown after updating software (3X Piriform, 1 Adobe), wasn't a total surprise.
I'm only asking because I'm a firm believer that you learn more when things go wrong than when everything works as expected.
A quick summary. Ran FileHippo as usual, updated software, shut down laptop.
Next day fired up laptop, it went straight to self-repair mode with message " a recent download has caused problems" (from memeory), then started self-repair.
Some time later it completed with message "Unable to repair - contact manufacturer"
Today, started laptop to have another go, and it's working perfectly. I'm typing this on it now.
As I said, it's not important at all, I'm just wondering what happened.
Thanks in advance for any info.

Is the software you installed working? If not, the laptop is probably not going to inform you again that it's got a problem.
If it is, it may have repaired on the second reboot.
Of course it may be an entirely different reason, but, haven't got another to hand right now...;):DDrinking Rum before 10am makes you
