Kobo Issues

Hi
I'm hoping someone can offer advice on this. I have a kobo ereader and on the weekend I was on the kobo app, with the kobo plugged into my laptop and it started to automatically update my Kobo.
The update has caused the Kobo to crash and it won't move of the start up screen. I've tried reseting it and nothing happens. I have been speaking to Kobo who initally wouldn't help as the Kobo is over 12 months old so is out of their warranty.
They now said they will look at it but we have to pay to post and insurance it to go to and from Holland to be looked at. Can they do this, when it was working perfectly well until their update broke it?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I feel they just don't really want to offer me any help?

They can say that you failed to update correctly due to a number of reasons .
Unstable connection with download errors is one reason .
As it updated automatically that is users choice to have auto updates turned on .
They have offered you help but you could ask for a UK service centre repair if such exists .
Failing that a mobile repair shop may be able to help.0
