    Fix it.

If it's CatD, that's all. If it's CatC, then you'll need to put it through a vehicle identity check (VIC) at some stage. You can use it in the interim, but you won't get a new V5C issued or any tax reminders until you do - and the V5C will say on it that it's been written off.

    Thanks Adrian.

I'm thinking of taking there offer as I'll get it for about £600ish and the full value is over £2000, pre write off of course!

If I do take it does anyone know if a trader will likely take part ex or if I even have to tell them or a purchaser, I'm assuming I do and to be honest wouldn't really feel right not doing so.

    Thanks again

If it's cat D then it will only show up on a hpi check

If it's cat C then it will be printed on the log book

You, as a private seller, don't have to tell prospective buyers unless asked. If asked you must answer honestly.

Remember that as cars get older the effect of previously being written off becomes less, I'd say that at £2k the effect would be small and once it drops to £1k there would be none.

Is it even worth doing HPI at the £1-2k price bracket? Even if you do then remember the damage your car has would have just been repaired with no record if the car was 2-3 years younger

So tell 'em. They may well still take it, but reduce their offer. If they HPI it, they'll know soon enough anyway.

If it looked retailable, a trader would HPI it, but if its just a low value trade-in it will be treated as a Charlie and figures will be adjusted to make you feel good at the cars value and it will be disposed of.

I know _exactly_ what you mean, but I've never heard the phrase before... Care to expand a bit?

A Charlie Cairoli, a clowns car where you write it down as if the cars tyres are going to go bang flat, the engine blow up and the doors fall off. A net zero trade in.
