Buying a Kindle

Hi guys,
I speed read at a very high rate and for that reason although I love books I never buy any because I always finish them in a couple of hours and then the money I've spent on them always seems a waste.
For me to get the enjoyment and experience of reading a book I always have to read about 4-5 books at once otherwise I feel like I'm not reading anything at all.
The reason why I'm telling you this is I know Kindles are really popular but I don't really know why and I'm wondering if I'm missing out and should get one. Why are they so popular?

If you can get to a Waterstones or WHSmith or Foyals, many have tester ebook readers and you can see for yourself if you still feel like your missing out. Not everyone feels as if they are missing something0

Kindles are amazing as you can discover so many new authors. There are so many free books on Amazon. The battery life is brilliant. I am a full time carer and it has been a real life saver. I am not allowed the lights on at dusk yet I can still read using the kindle.
They are so light and so portable. The price is dropping. Disadvantages - however no books to recycle or pass on to friends - will the charity shops suffer?
Will it lead to booksellers closing?0 -
I've got a Kindle fire hd. I always thought I wouldn't read a book on a device, preffering the feel of a book, however not so. The kindle allows you to have several books on the go at once. It's brilliant.0

I got a Kindle about 3 years ago so it's not the all singing, all dancing version but I have certainly found it more than adequate for my needs. I take it with me when travelling too, very portable. I recently joined Amazon Prime and there is a whole range of Kindle books to borrow for free.
I would like to update mine but for no real reason, just that I am curious to know what the latest version can do that mine can't.0 -
I didn't think I would like a Kindle but its wonderful.. Loads of free books on Amazon.
I bought a Fire but found that I couldn't read it in bright sunlight so I just use that as a tablet and stick with my old one for reading0 -
There brilliant, I have had my kindle for 3 years, brought my daughter one (now 11yrs) she love her, were upgrading hers to the kindle white as a birthday present, so grandads having the old one.
I still buy the odd book for holidays but I download free books and have a variety on the go xxxx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0 -
I too am an avid reader and was horrified at the idea of reading a book on an electronic device. I've changed my mind now :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:.
Don't get me wrong, I still prefer paper over gadgetry but Kindles are so very handy. As others have said you can get zillions of free books from Amazon, a lot are (in my opinion) crappy, but there are plenty of good ones out there. And if you are feeling particularly flush you could fork out some money - I Don't do this very often and my upper limit is £2. Mind for that it's got to be bloomin good!!
Another plus point, you can have hundreds of books and they take up no room.
Oh, and you can surf the net and play stupid games like candy crush saga :T:T:T:T.
So I say go for it, you won't regret it. Of course if you're anything like me you'll still buy books in charity shops and at car boots!!!!!0 -
I had one of the original Kindles and now have a fire, which I'm typing this on. I love it, I still read real books some time but honestly couldn't live without it!0

I have a kindle but I don't use it. I love paperbacks. The quality of reading is the same but I very much missed the pleasure of seeing an open book on the arm of the chair, or the teetering pile on the bedside table.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0

Great for travelling - haven't bought a fiction dead tree version since I bought a kindle. Reference books will have to wait for the 15" colour version (with free jet pack...).0
