flat roof skylights....on ebay??

Hello
I need to replace a skylight. The current one is pvc and has been botched a bit it's no longer secure. A little research online has revealed a lot of manufacturers and some steep prices.

I thought I'd check to see if any second hand ones were on ebay. There are a few but there are also agents selling for manufacturers with massively cheaper options. I'd need the matching kerb which send to up the price most places I've looked at but these seem to be standard in the ebay listings. Some explicitly say they are agents and to contact for a quote...so presumably the price listed is the absolute cheapest porthole option. But others indicate that the price is for the size listed

Had anyone heard about buying this way?

Edit= one thing I can see from the drawing is that the glass is only secured with silicon sealant by the customer...not exactly secure on a ground floor flat roof.

I'm not a stranger to buying in ebay and I'm perfectly happy to buy second hand things.

But, with something like that, which is liable to failure and could cause more expensive damage, I'd be looking for a local company to provide me with adequate support should something go wrong.

Thanks. Generally I'm fine with buying something on ebay but there seems to be so much to consider with glazing (and so much marketing and sales people = instantly wary). It's a flat roof over the ground floor with an opening already clearly visible and roofing materials in good condition.

So a properly secured skylight should be straight-forward to fit, accounting for rain run off etc. We have another that was fitted with security screws (turn one way) but it seems this one was replaced or messed with at some point. I'm just guessing that a sheet of glass held to a kerb with silicon sealant (no matter how good) would be a pretty simple thing to break into (and hence would invalidate my insurance entirely).

I don't know if you have replaced your skylight yet or not. As with everything you get what you pay for. You should be looking at double glazing really to provide good security with good U values to retain heat. A reputable supplier should provide you with a guarantee too. If you are still looking I can recommend a supplier.

Yeah, I haven't got around to it yet, thanks. The glass double glazed ones are a bit closer to expected prices and are presumably more solid. The cheaper ones seem to be cheap acrylic etc so I will probably steer clear of those. Who would you recommend?

We have used Viva who are UK company. They are not the cheapest but the quality is really good, which our fitter also commented on. You can use on online tool to get a quote without having to speak to a salesman - we rang them up after we did that just to give us confidence over our measurments before we ordered.
http://www.vivafolio.com/advice/skylights/ I don't know if they do flat ones, you might have to ring and ask.
