Well, even though we're a single-income family, and my husband doesn't make oodles of money, we're buying a house! We'll be downsizing, though. We've been renting a 3bd semi with a great view and we're buying a 2bd mid terrace. But, it's well within our price range - our mortgage will be less than our rent.
It did help that the inlaws have given us a 10% deposit. And, we live in Scotland, where home prices are lower.
Anyway, I'm just relieved that we aren't in the same situation as many people down in England - particularly around London - who just can't figure out how to ever buy anything.

You've obviously not bought a house in Aberdeen, Glasgow or Edinburgh then?BrandNewDay wrote: »And, we live in Scotland, where home prices are lower.0 -
Many congrats
Its an exciting feeling. Just to encourage you further, I bought a three bed semi five years ago and paid off the mortgage. I have now saved enough of a deposit to buy a second one. I have to move abaout 20 miles for a new job and hope to keep this one. I am a single parent, so one income here too. Mse has really made the difference to my life. Scottish house prices have risen a fair deal though. This house is now worth double what I paid 5 years ago. 0 -
