in Credit cards
Hi all,
I got my Fisher Price credit card in Jan, as I have only lived here for 4 years and have moved around a bit, I got the Barclaycard Initial, which has proved great for booking my holiday to the States in June. I have paid the balance in full each month, and I go the 5 months interest free.
What I am wondering is, with the benefits of the Capital One classic giving 0% load fee and various other benefits while abroad, and I have a 90% chance of being approved, is it worth getting this second 'lesser credit rating' card for the sake of what could be a few quid. My frugal lifestyle over the last 6 months means I have my holiday money saved, thus I plan on using the credit card, then repaying the balance when I use it up - my current card has a limit of £400. Or I could just get one of the pre-paid fair Fx cards and keep the credit card for paying for hotels etc.
Long and rambling, again - I just don't want to apply for a 2nd card after such a short period of having the first one if a rejection will put a black mark on my credit rating.
FYI, I am employed full-time earning the average salary...ish.

A new application on your file now is going to make very little difference to your credit file.
It certainly won't be a black mark and won't detail that you were rejected (if you were).
If you are not expecting to need to apply for another credit product for a couple of months I would give an application a try (not least because I would always prefer to travel abroad with 2 cards in case of any problems with using one).A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -

Like Tixy said, if you're travelling abroad, it's nice to have a second card as a back up.
The Capital One Classic Extra is pretty good considering it's only a subprime card. You get 0.5% cashback on all your spending, £10 bonus every January providing you pay on time each month and it's free to use abroad so it would be ideal to have when you go on holiday. I think the Barclaycards charge if you use them abroad.
While it's true there are better cards out there for foreign use (Halifax Clarity, Nationwide, ect), the Capital One card is accessible for people with limited credit history.
Aqua Advance is another one, that would be free to use abroad. However, it doesn't offer any cashback. Between the two, I'd personally choose the Capital One card.0 -
Thanks everyone, that's great advice, good to know applying for a second card won't make that much of a difference as it's getting the first one that's the hurdle I suppose!
I will apply for the capital one card!:beer:0 -
I got accepted for the Cap.One card, happy days! I also have double the limit of my Barclaycard Initial... So my holiday spending is all sorted now!0
