Mortgage offer from Hailfax

Options
Is anyone else finding that Halifax are taking forever with sending out the mortgage offer once the vaulation has been done? I am a 1st time buyer and have sent off bank statements, payslips, inside leg measurements etc etc etc - but they have taken over 3 weeks to send the mortgage offer to my solicitor, who can't do anything until this comes from Halifax! My broker contact is off this week and got some numskull filling in for her, who doesn't seem that bothered about 1) returning my calls and 2) ringing Halifax to see what the hold up is!

Can I ring Halifax myself and find this out or as it's done through a broker will they not release any info?

Any help or advice appreciated - I want to move!!

  • Hi,
We had our mortgage through Halifax recently, you will be fine to call them yourself, just make sure you get put through to their 'progressions team' as those are the guys that can give you the most detailed information.
We did find ours very quick, they sent the offer out within a few days of the valuation, this was though saying that about 3 weeks ago, so it may have changed!

Thank you for your response. Glad yours went through quickly, you are very lucky :-)

Did you need to quote a reference number of some sort for them to pull up the details. Or can I simply give them name, address, tel no. etc ?
  • Hi,

Not really lucky lol have a look at my post if you have time, we have had a horrendous time with it, everything that could go wrong went wrong lol.
I really hope it is a lot more straight forward for you, no news is good news remember :-)

There should be an agreement number on your paperwork you initially got from Halifax/your broker?
If not, I would see whether name/address will be sufficient!

Oh wow, yea, you really did have a bad time of it! Makes my experience so far look pretty smooth!
I am sure I have that reference number somewhere so will track it down and give them a call. Hopefully my broker may beat me to it, chance would be a fine thing!
Thanks again for your help, these forums are very helpful and make you feel you aren't the only one going through the stresses and strains of buying a property
  • Excellent, yes it should be I think on the front page with some letters at the beginning. Thinking about it, you may need to definitely have that reference number as I think I had to wait until I was home from work to ring them for that reason.

Not a problem at all, I agree with you, it is really helpful to share experiences and know that you aren't alone in the world of mortgage stress.
Best of luck with it all, keep us updated!

Halifax roll numbers are in "10/51000000-00" format.

Thanks, thats useful. My broker still hasn't called Halifax for an update so will need to do this tonight if I can locate the roll number.

So glad I'm not alone here! Halifax are taking the p*** with my mortgage offer, having incorrectly marked the £6,000 deposit as an incentive which has messed all the forms up. My FA is telling me that we will "definitely" have the offer tomorrow.

Today is 1 month since the valuation! We were hoping to exchange before we go away tomorrow but no hope of that now! Driving me slowly insane :(

We are also experiencing delays with Halifax.

Our valuation was carried out nearly 3 weeks ago and there is still no update. I am chasing every other day but just keep getting told it is still "in the processing queue" and that because of the new MMR things are taking much longer! We started our application in March so I think (hope) we won't be under the MMR rules but guess it's causing delays across the board.

I had such a restless night last night as I've been stressing about this for so long. Really hope to hear soon :(
