Nope, they would have been wasted. Only ambient items are put back.

I used to work in a supermarket and we had it drummed into us that anything chilled or frozen could only be out of the chillers/freezers for 20 minutes. After that it has to be wasted. If it's in a customers basket, you don't know how long the customer has wandered around the store.
I'm glad to hear this. Might do it again, then.

Why? All the wasted items cost money, which the supermarkets factor into their pricing structures. The more food waste, the more the cost of food increases.

Do you like paying more for your food than necessary?

I think there are far more appropriate contributions of mine that would trigger that query than in this thread.

And I'm not the one compliantly sucking the Kool-Aid stuff your trolleys full regardless of want popsicles.

Ah, but as my futile boycott of multibuys has had zero effect on their infestation then my spoiling a basket of goods or three is not going to affect prices.

(I suspect there are logical and moral flaws to that statement.)

I would say there are very few "staple" items on multibuy offers anyway. Milk is now £1 for 4 pints in all supermarkets (making it only 14p more than 2 pints in most cases). Most cooking staples you can buy smart price or value brands plus if the own label is on offer then tins etc keep.

Bread is often 1 for £1.20 or 2 for £2 or similar in Asda but I just feel for a small potential saving it isn't worth buying the second loaf. I don't feel like I am paying a huge amount more by not getting the 2 for....

Meat is often on 2 for X or 3 for £10 but if the pack sizes don't suit you then freeze some. Or check the dates when buying and you can often get a weeks worth of meals for the £10 of meat.

As you said when checking through the list of half price offers a lot of items are unnecessary such as confectionary, yoghurt, soft drinks etc and it is the same with multbuy deals.

Bread, prepack meats, near-everything in the chillers, fruit juice, butter (mostly only 500g packs), yoghurt, prepack fish (sainsbury's have just recently changed to multibuy packs from by weight), walnut whips, sausages, bacon, cooked meats, salsa and dips, deli salads.

About the only thing not on multibuy is milk - that's 49p per pint regardless (45p some places.) And alcohol.

??? The question is about multibuys, not bogofs.

I challenge you to find 21 staples that are not almost always on multibuy.

I think this just goes to show how good the marketting dept is and how effective they are. BOGOF IS a multibuy.
The only thing that is constant is change.

But there is still staple items that are not in the multi-buy, you have the choice to buy other types of ham. Also the saving is often only pennies , if you think you will waste the second pack it is cheaper for you just to buy one (I often count up how many days I will need ham for and work out whether I need the second one or not). I would very rarely decide not to buy something just because I am missing out on a saving of 50p on the second pack.
