Multibuys

Hi..
Is there somewhere I can shop where I can get just one item at a good price.
I am a recently retired single dad on a low income and I always have one teenager living with me and often two.
I can see the benefit of a multibuy but I can't afford the higher price of the deals and haven't got the freezer space anyway.;)
I live in a fairly rural area but can get to Tesco, Sainsbury, Waitrose,
Co op and a Lidl.
Any suggestions please?;)

Only Lidl and even they are sneaking some in. Your other four are never going back to single pack pricing - their computers do not lie. There is no discipline by customers.

And people wonder why people are getting fatter.

Asda generally has the least multi-buy offers of the big supermarkets and the ones they do oftern aren't great savings (eg £1.60 each or 2 for £3) but they are often slightly cheaper at full price compared to Tesco. Lidl Aldi and Netto don't seem to do any multibuy offers.

Tesco currently have 409 half price offers

    And only 21 BOGOF offers.

When this BogOff thing was in the news once didn't some of the supermarkets (i think maybe Tesco) say they'd give people a voucher to pick the second item up on their next visit.

??? The question is about multibuys, not bogofs.

I challenge you to find 21 staples that are not almost always on multibuy.

Did not apply to multibuys. Read the question.

(Tried it myself. Left a whole basket of chilled goods to be thrown away at customer services when they refused to extend the offer. They probably just put them back on the shelves, though.)

When people quote you then write text below that quote it means they are replying to you and not any other previous post.

There are well over 21 staples on this list which are not on multibuy.

Nope, they would have been wasted. Only ambient items are put back.

I used to work in a supermarket and we had it drummed into us that anything chilled or frozen could only be out of the chillers/freezers for 20 minutes. After that it has to be wasted. If it's in a customers basket, you don't know how long the customer has wandered around the store.

Trying hard to find a staple

Cathedral cheddar costs more than £14 per kg? I think not.
500g tubs of spread or butter don't register with me. Where are the 250g packs of butter for £1.25?
milk shakes are confectionery - even so, false offer, that is the standard price, no-one buys Frijjs at 'full' price.
Muller yoghurts - again, three to the pound, bog standard regular price

You really pay £17 for rump steak? Anyway, those aren't packs.

One pack of sausages - meanwhile you ignore the dozen other varieties that are only sold at two for. Even the cheaper sausages had been increased to three packs at a time rather than two last time I visited.

A quiche for £1.20. Okay, first item found. How many of the other dozen quiches are on multi-buy? 90%?

    skip more confectionery

tin of tuna (chunks not steaks) for £1. Yes, because people really pay £2 for a can of tuna.

a couple of brands of tinned tomato - again, false offer

    cakes, sweets, blah

skipping processed and chopped and shaped frozen nonsense

Frozen chicken - £5.48 is half price - no it's not

    Ice creams
not exactly a staple - again, not exactly genuine prices - most people just grab whichever flavour of Magnum is reduced that week. Not a genuine offer.(Although I admit I might look around to see if a local stocks the pistachio flavour.) Can't live on ice cream, though.

    etc for another five pages.

    Second page

Pepsi 99p for 2l. Again, standard price. Plus they have increased the multi-buy demand for their own label stuff (that is, you now have to buy 3 x 2 litre bottles at a time.)

One or two half price coffees - plus a dozen two-for brands, though

And now some wine - even you are going to admit those are not genuine offers (and even if one or two slip in who trusts supermarkets or can be bothered to try to identify the real one?)

Actually, that's the end of the food - four and a half pages of toiletries and other rubbish.

So in six pages and 584 items I count one quiche and perhaps a pack of sausages (although I am not convinced that is half price for a Richmond sausage.)

Bad luck, you fail, I win.
