Fixed rate prices?

Hi,

I've recently changed my Gas & Electricity supplier to a fixed rate fee.

After two months I've not an email saying my prices are GOING UP!?

Are they allowed to do this? And if so, kind of defeats the point in 'fixed' pricing.

are your unit prices going up, or if your are on monthly DD, is it being increased?

Welcome to the forum.


They cannot increase the unit price(kWh) of gas/electricity, or the Daily Standing Charge(DSC).


However if you use more gas/electricity - you pay more.


I doubt if they say your 'prices' are going up, but your monthly Direct Debit could increase if it was set too low initially.


It seems some people confuse a fixed tariff with the old 'staywarm' tariff that was fixed for a period regardless of how much gas/electricity was used.

Okay, so the fixed price means their rate stays the same throughout the contract but the DD depends on how much is actually used?

I've spoke to them and the DD amount is checked every three months depending on what we've used in that 3 month period before to adjust the DD for the next 3 months.

Correct. Energy tariffs aren't an all you can eat buffet.
