Asda delivery = ruined clothing

I recently ordered my grocery shopping from Asda and I ordered 2 bottles of bleach which had leaked. The driver refunded my for it as well as the other items in the bag it was in.
He failed to inform me that the bleach was all over the other carrier bags which them went on my jeans and has left a mark.

I emailed Asda to ask for the price of my jeans to be compensated but was told they couldn't and would give me £10 Asda voucher, I called them and said I wasn't happy with it and they increased it to £17, strange amount, no?

I was told they couldn't give me the cost of my jeans, only money to shop in Asda.

This amount won't cover the cost of my jeans and about half of my shopping was covered in bleach.

The driver said it had gone all over other people's shopping too so I hope it didn't go on their fresh fruit and veg and poison them.

Unsure what else I can do about this or if this is an acceptable offer?

    I'd say £17 is a very acceptable offer.#

You could always take your shopping to a store and ask for a full refunds due to the bleach incident? It sounds like the driver already refunded you the affected items though.

Survey if he told you the bottles had leaked then it would be safe to assume it would have gone over other bags too? Liquids aren't really known for their staying-put properties.

I hope the river did warn other customer's about the leak or even better get CS to call ahead so they could get replacements to them?

How much were your jeans? They wouldn't be liable for replacing them as new, just the second hand value - in which case £17 is probably quite fair.

I had this happen to me once and the bleach ruined a throw on my sofa. Tesco gave me £10 in vouchers, which I was happy with.

If the jeans are worth more I'd phone the Head Office again and ask to speak to a manager and put your case.

I certainly don't feel it's acceptable to give a voucher.

If they are designer jeans costing over £100 and were in as new condition, would £17 be acceptable?
  • Same thing here with Sainsburys and I was asked to buy another pair and take the receipt in for a refund. They also wanted the damaged pair for some reason but they were ruined anyway

Because some people will claim damage (when its fine)

If they replace your jeans, they should get your old ones :P
Many people will claim foul over some scruffs, then just keep the money.

You're kidding aren't you? If this had happened to a pair of mine and all they offered was £17 I would go mental - you can't get a decent pair of jeans for that! You would struggle to get a pair from primark for that price! Not that there is anything wrong with primark! :)

The last time I went to Primark a lot of jeans were around £8 and you'd struggle to pay more than £17!
