Digital meter broken

Our digital meter has broken, the screen is totally blank so we can't give a meter reading.
It is being repaired tomorrow.
My question is, how to we provide meter readings? can they be 'taken' from the meter when it is removed tomorrow?
If you can't see the reading, why do you think anyone else will be able to?
Well perhaps if they can power it up, it might give a reading, but how will anyone know if it's accurante? Perhaps the meter has been dead for days/weeks/months/years?
The supplier will probably estimate your usage.
Keep a closer eye on your meter in future. The displays rarely just pack up suddenly, but gradually fade.
(Having said that, I don't think they tend to install battery operated meters much now, for the very reason the battery eventually runs out - I suppose pre-payment gas meters have to be battery operated though)0 -

Thanks for your reply.
We've been giving meter readings every three months to Scottish Power, when they email to remind us. Scottish power stopped sending the emails so unfortunatly it was 5months before we went to read it. As our fixed term was up and we wanted to change to a different tarrif.
When we informed Scottish power, they failed to book the meter in for repair, that was about 2 months ago. Hopefully they will repair it tomorrow.
THe lady my partner spoke to said they have an internal memory.
They won't let us give our gas meter readings (which is working fine) until we put readings in for the electricity.0 -
If you have been giving regular reads, they should be able to estimate one easy enoughDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

I dont think a week go s by when I don t find a blank screen on a digital electric meter. Its the small white one, landys Gyr ( and other makes.) of the same size.As far as I am aware the reading is not usually recoverable, so an estimated bill is the usual routine. I always tell the customer to phone customer services as nothing is done if I report it on my handheld computer0
