council tax reduction/disability

But aren't you and your husband both on contributions based ESA support group? Whereas a couple on income based would get far less. If so, you're hardly on "minimal benefits".
Those on income based benefits haven't had the option to pay into the system. They can't have a working partner or savings without their income being affected. Whereas those on contributions based benefits can have a partner and savings without their benefits being affected.
Since we both get DLA we would get much more in benefits if we were on income based benefits, we would also get a massive care package for just under £40 per week, we would get the adaptions we need doing to the house done for free, we could get a new WAV without paying at least a £20,000 deposit on Motability, we would save £200 per month council tax, we could get a new fuel efficent boiler free of charge and I could go on and on about the other things we would be entitled too.
Many people worked pre disability and chose not to pay into pension schemes and/or save that was their choice and the goverment rewards those people instaid or rewarding the people who worked hard and were prepared to spend a few pounds per week on a pension rather than get a newspapers or a magazines, everyone can afford a savings plan of £12.50 pm instead of fags or booze. I have had disabilities since birth and the are degenerative so I prepared by getting educated to do a job I could do despite these but no one can predict a high speed car crash destroying their spine/pelvis etc. My husband and I were both working overtime the days we became disabled, we never had any debt and we didnt have expensive holidays abroad we couldnt afford like my friends, we lived within our means. Why should we be penalised for being senseable?
We are not really bothered about the money per say, its being denied the care and adaptions we desperatly need. We bought our own home that was suitable for my wheelchair and we did all the adaptions I needed then and some I would need in the future but then fate intervined again and I got new unforeseen health conditions which require more adaptions and we just cant afford to have them done, we also never expected a man who was fit as an ox to collapse one day with organ failure and now he needs a few adaptions to allow him to be safe post stroke and again we dont have the money for them.
The social workers are disgusted that we cant get any help what so ever, they assess us annually and draw up a wonderfull care package and DFG forms get done and then we fail the financial assessment, we can have the carers and builders via them and pay more than we can get the services on our own and it we use their builders we have much less choice of who we have and for my personel care I dont want a sucession of carers who cant speak English (Im a lip reader) and dont seem to have had any training on how to care for a paraplegic.
We dont ask the council for @ £100 per week to provide a roof over our heads or pay the @£200pm council tax, we dont ask for free scripts (hough I am exempt due to my Urostomy and our son is exempt due to Hasimotos (sp) or glasses, we have never even claimed child tax credits. Our benefits are minimal in comparison to the many people who post on disability sites and we both worked and paid our NI/taxes to be entitled to IVB/ESA and we are both severely disabled as we dont have to worry about the time limit.0
