Growths on plum tree

I have just been looking at the amount of blossom and potential fruit on our 4 year old Opal plum tree, (never had much fruit, 10 plums at the most but there are masses growing on it now) when I noticed something strange.

There are a lot of raised things on the new growth that look a bit like snail shells, very brittle, can be squashed (popped), a tortoiseshell type of pattern in brown and black and a yellow sap comes out. They appear to be on the new growth, none on the original trunk or main old branches.

They are individual lumps, not clumps, so not sure what they are.

Anyone any ideas please?

Ta.

Yep, that is what they look like.

I will have a go at scraping some of them off the branches tomorrow if it stays dry.

I don't really want to cut off all of the branches with them on as there are lots of young plums on there.

You could try Provodo Ultimate Bug Killer, now in Wilkinson's, £4

You need to spray against plum maggot now anyway, so this stuff will do both as it is systemic.

Just did my plum yesterday, nothing worse than coddling a plum tree, picking a juicy plum and finding maggot in the middle

Not sure if organic solution available for plum moth
