Thinking about buying 1 of these, anyone have 1, they any good ? are they any good for reading in the sun ? I currently use my N7 for reading books but its notthe best so was thinking maybe a nook would be better.

We have a couple of Nooks in our household and they are great for the prices we paid (29 for the non glow light and 59 for the glow light one I think)
I do prefer my Kobo Glo - but that was 99.
  • It's eInk.. so it's perfect for reading in the sun. The battery lasts for weeks too.

Thanks, seen eInk mentioned and wondered what it meant and was going to see what it meant.
  • ok.. eInk is completely different to a normal tablet/phone display. It only displays in greyscale, it doesn't refresh quite as quick as a normal display

    BUT

it only uses power when it changes pages. So it uses a tiny amount of power. You could happily take one away for a holiday without a charger. Also, you can read it in very bright sunlight without any issue.

The nook will read epub and pdf files very nicely. Just don't expect it to be like an ipad - it is specifically for reading books on and won't do much else
  • I have the non light version and it is great in the sun and not bad indoors but you do need some light, but this would not be a problem with your version. Charged before we went on two weeks holiday used most days and still had 50% charge left when we came back. magic

Hi, I bought one of these about 3 days ago - love it! I did my research and picked one up from Argos for £49 - very good value for money. Perfect in any lighting. My main reason for buying this was to ensure there is less strain on my eyes (the blue-end spectrum light from tablets and phones is hard on the eyes and can make it harder to go to sleep).

Also I stumbled across a genuine Nook cover for £5 (reduced from £25-£35) with free p+p from the main Nook website, Barnes and Noble. My only concern was that the company don't seem to be doing that well even though ebooks are on the rise but after reading some reviews etc I felt safe enough to go ahead.

You don't just have to buy Nook books either.

    Hope this helps.:j
  • Yes.. don't assume B&N are going to be in business too long

BUT - you can buy your ebooks from the Google play store. You can rent them from a lot of public libraries too

Yes I know it wont do much else apart from read books, its a great bit of kit, find its easier to read on a nook than my N7.

Have used it outside a few times now and its pretty good.
