Barclays standing order date changing??

My wages are paid by standing order from a barclays account. The date has always been the 5th of each month. Or the next working day if bank holiday or weekend. But now it seems to be randomly any day between the 1st and the 8th! It happened once or twice about a year ago bit then settled back the 5th again but now its consistently wrong. I've spoken to my boss about it but he said he doesn't know why it changes and I doubt he will bother going to the branch to sort it out!
Just wondered if anyone else experienced this? I've had to transfer money out of my savings this month to prevent being overdrawn.

I doubt your wages are actually paid by 'standing order'. More likely BACS. Anyway, your boss is telling you porky pies; the date you get paid is something he controls.0 -
Do you get paid the exact same amount every month ? If not then it's not a standing order. It's doubtful you employer would reset the standing order with a different amount each month.0

As the others have said it's very unlikely to be standing order. But whatever method is used, such as BACS Direct Credit or Faster Payments, or even SO, the payment date is under a reasonable amount of control by the payer, so if it's varying between the 1st and the 8th that's down to something your boss is doing.0

It's definitely a SO I set it up a few years ago on the business online banking. My boss it totally computer illiterate so relied on me or one other member of staff to do all his online banking. Until a fraud scare sent him back to the Stone Age! My wages haven't changed for a couple of years. It's always the same amount each month.
I can only imagine it's an error with the barclays system.0 -
Three things count against your analysis.
1) If it was an issue at Barclays that has been happening for as long as you say I think we would have heard about it before now.
2) It's really not possible for a SO payment date to vary between the 1st and the 8th, the maximum variance is 4 or 5 days.
3) A SO cannot be paid on a date any earlier than the date set in the system, it can only be paid later. So if you set it up to be paid on the 5th, that's the earliest it can happen. If the 5th is a non-banking day then it'll be paid on the next banking day (so this month it would have been the 6th).
If you are certain that payments have been received earlier than the 5th then somebody has changed the way it's happening since you set it up.
As an aside, I can't see how your wage has stayed the same for a couple of years when the personal allowance has increased by £1900 since 2012/3, unless you have always earned below £8,105.0 -

Well something strange is definitely afoot! Last month it was the 2nd and I can't see my boss going to the branch each month and altering my standing order! I suppose I'll have to pester him to go in there and ask for an explanation.
Regarding the personal allowance, my boss does things a bit backwards. He pays our wages as net and then works out the gross figure from that. So I get a nice round figure that never changes unless I get a pay rise.0 -

If your wages haven't increased following the increase in the personal tax allowance, then surely you've had a wage cut?0 -

I don't think your boss is as daft as you think he is ! :eek:0
