Applying for a YBS Mortgage - Good Idea?

Hi,
Having had a horrendous experience with Tesco thus far I am considering ditching them when our current mortgage offer runs out and switching to YBS who are offering an attractive 5 yr fixed rate product at 85% LTV. I was starting to feel comfortable with doing this and losing the product and valuation fee's I'd paid to Tesco's (as YBS fee's are lower anyway so offset this a bit) until I started reading reviews about YBS customer service and mortgage application process which sounds like a nightmare. I've got a mortgage in Principle from them to check they'd lend us what we need and that seemed straightforward and only took about 15 mins online but from what I've read it all goes downhill from here.
So I am now wondering whether I would be jumping from the frying pan into the fire?! Any one had any recent experience of applying for a mortgage with YBS? Also how long are their mortgage offers valid for as our new house is being built and wont be complete until Oct/Nov so I wouldn't want to get an
offer too early... ;-)
Cheers

Thanks. Can I ask how recently you went through the application process? I've read some recent feedback on review centre which wasn't good at all - stories of waiting months for an offer and ,being asked for all sorts of proof documentation and generally slow/poor service....0 -
I'd love to know why people will not use them, or don't rate them..... Tell us more!0

It was February last year. Had an offer within a week. They did want quite a bit of information but that wasn't a problem. Although this was all pre MMR so it's quite possible there is a backlog now while they look into applications in more detail.0
