Restrictive covenants on house we want to buy...

Thanks everyone, we've asked our solicitor for options. We can see that a few of the neighbours have rear extensions and funnily enough there's a mechanic business being operated from a house on the road! We can also see sheds in people's gardens. So I guess we'll wait to see what the solicitor can find out. It's difficult isn't it because if you go down the route of contacting the covenant holders for permission then you can't get insurance. Also if we dont contact them what happens in the 12 months between building a shed/extension/raising geese... is that the tricky time when we could get into trouble before we get insurance?
This house buying/selling business is a racket isn't it!
Thanks again.0 -

Lots of people do and have to apply to the council for a dropped curb to allow this. Go figure.
Even if the covenant did not exist the requirement to apply for a dropped kerb to cross the pavement still applies.Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.0 -
I am not allowed to make milk or other dairy products although have resisted the urge.
The original idea for such covenants is to stop owners competing with the business of the original land owner. On estates its more common to maintain the uniformity of the site for the first few years.
Its probably safe to ignore some of them and see if there are any objections, but clearly unwise to do so if there is significant expenditure (such as a restriction on extending the property).

By law you can keep rabbits and hens whatever the covenants say. If that makes you feel better...I'm also not allowed a religious meeting house for any religion other than the Church of England.
I'm thinking that that one may have been voided by the current laws against discrimination.no signwritten vans overnight, no large vans overnight etc
Just park on the street, outside the property's land. Problem solved.0 -
