Artificial turf advice

Hi there

I've been considering artificial grass for some time. I only have two small garden areas, but unfortunately due to health problems I am not able to maintain my lawns anymore.

It's all a bit baffling to be honest. The ranges in homebase and B&Q look a little basic for my tastes, but when I had a quote from lazylawn it was exceedingly expensive - £3K for in total 4m x 9m (thats front and back!).

I think it may be cheaper to source the artificial turf myself (say off ebay) and pay a gardener to lay it for me. However, its daunting spending so much money on ebay based on a small picture or even a sample. Ideally I wonder if some really nice MSE Forumers who've got artificial turf might be kind enough to share some advice and maybe even a recommendation or two

Should that be a builder? You are going to want a stable . level ( or do you, want about drainage? ) base.
I don't know the answer , who lays , fake grass?

Never going to be a cheap job.

Think Japanese ? raked gravel with a couple of pots. Must be a lot cheaper.

Wildflower lawn laid as turf and cut twice a year buy a gardener might be cheaper.

Or a low maintenance alternative lawn....gravel is an option, or say, creeping thyme or chamomile if your garden is low traffic and suitable conditions?

I really appreciate all the great suggestions. I had looked at wildflower before, but that can take quite a while to bed in.
