https://www.whitegoods.co.uk has good advice about brands-take a look there.

Order online and pay with a credit card for extra protection.
I found https://www.appliancecity.co.uk good on price buts that's just one suggestion.

You want to check it and see if it is the right size for you. Euronics centres IMO are the best place to buy from, they are good on prices and there will be at least one in your town.

They also offer free warranties on certain brands, that online/curry's etc cannot offer.

I second AO (appliances online). They'll price match, their delivery service is excellent, and their aftercare is fantastic too.
Have used them several times now, and couldn't fault them.

I second john lewis. They sometimes have extended guarantees at no extra cost.

Normally I would agree with JL, but when I ordered a fridge it took them six weeks and four deliveries to get it right - they kept sending damaged ones. No one wanted to take ownership of the problem. It would not stop me using them again, but I can't agree they will give peace of mind ;)

We got one from our local euronics store last year, they were very good, no pressure and very knowledgeable. The delivery guys came in a shirt and tie and took extreme care to get the appliance in. They also took time to explain all the features before departing.

Third vote for Appliances Online (now ao.com). They have videos about many of the products which are a little cheesy, but have quite good information in them.

Have had a fridge, a washing machine and a fridge-freezer from them in the last few years and they've always been excellent. Some of the best online customer service I've seen, with lots of updates about the delivery slot. Also far, far cheaper than Currys etc if you want to pay them to take your old appliance away.

Definitely price-compare. They're usually cheapest for a given model. If John Lewis are the same price or only slightly more, worth using them instead as they give a longer guarantee.

When I bought a new washing machine a couple of years ago I researched the model that was the best combination of approximate price and functionality for me, then searched for places that sold it to get the best price. I discover it was Boots online, something of a surprise as I didn't know they sold white goods. I believe the order was actually fulfilled by DLR, who also own Appliances Online (I didn't know that at the time), but I got a lot of Boots Advantage points too.
