We visited in February and thought it was awful. It was a drab and dreary place and the animals were all lethargic (the ones we saw).
Definitely not the image displayed on the TV.0 -
Don't they all go back to Whipsnade for a Winter country holiday? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

London Zoo is an old zoo built when animal welfare was not a major consideration. Clearly they now do the best they can but they are ultimately limited by being in central London. Generally most the enclosures are small compared to other zoos and a lot less opportunity for the animals to hide.
In winter the cold will make the animals slower and it is a very grey place even in summer let alone a cold wet winters day.
Personally I'd rather go to Colchester Zoo or such at any time of the year -v- London but always winter will be a lesser exp than other months0 -
I was embarrassed on my last visit, for the zoo, myself and the tourists that happened to be there that day.
It was summer, the animals (what there was of them!) were ropey and everywhere was shoddy, like it needed a good refurb.
In my opinion it should be closed until it can present itself as what it sells itself as, a zoo & tourist attraction.

Like some of the posters above, I have also found London Zoo to treat the animals extremely badly, and this is particularly apparent when the weather is hot.
Some of the poor creatures are in a hard stoney place, where they cannot get any respite, and so just lie down miserably and bake in the heat. Those animals that can, sensibly take shelter and hide, causing complaints from some unsympathetic visitors.
The few keepers that are around do not take any care of the animals, when they should be giving them water to drink or squirting them with water to cool them down.
This makes visiting the zoo a complete waste of time, and as other people say, visitors are embarassed to be paying money to keep the zoo going and maltreating the animals.
Zoos in general should be avoided, and London Zoo should be closed because of their cruelty to the animals.
Safari and wild life parks are a better place to see animals in a more natural way.0
