Refilling a sample toner cartridge

So I bought a Ricoh Afico SP100 printer (because they are very cheap), it came with a 500 page toner cartridge which I quickly used. The question relates to the difference between a 500 page toner cartridge and a full size cartridge.

I know that you can refill a full size cartridge for about £25, where a new one costs about £50. What I don't know is what happens if you refill the 500 page cartridge. Ie is the 500 page cartridge the same as a big one but with less ink - or is it fundementally different? Ie if I refill it will I only get 500 pages or will I get a full size toner cartridge?

There is obviously no point paying £25 for a refill which only gets me 500 pages when I can pay £50 for a full size toner cartridge.

Does anyone know?

I don't know about the Ricoh, but my Samsung one had a starter cartridge which I refilled and which then lasted as long as a full size.

Incidentally, I filled it a couple of times but then found it better to get cheap compatibles off eBay as the print quality deteriorated and the print came out grey rather than black.

These guys will be able to answer your question and supply anything necessary to upgrade your "starter" cartridge:

In my case ("Brother" laser) it required a plastic cog wheel to be added.
