How fast should 100mb be on ipad2?

Recently upgraded to virginmedia 100mb broadband and am still only getting on average 35mb download speed wirelessly on ipad2. Is there anyway of increasing this?

Sounds as though you're hitting the maximum speed of your wireless connection. Which SuperHub or router do you have?

It's a superhub 1 and I can get 90mb download on my laptop.

What speed does your Ipad connect at though? (not just download speed, but check the settings for it's connection rate)

Different devices can vary in their connection speed massively, especially things like tablets and phones that often suffer from having a really poor antenni for their wireless as they like to keep them small to reduce weight (or put them in utterly stupid places as happened famously with one iphone model).

For example you can have two devices that both use the same generation of wireless connection, but due to a difference in the antenni or actual wireless chipset one might connect at 3 or 4 times the speed of the other in the same location, to the same router using the same settings.
It's one of the reasons you sometimes find two models or router by a manufacturer, one with internal antenna, and one with external ones but all other specs are the same, the external antennae give a much better signal typically (and are often removable so you can replace them with even better ones, or ones that are on wires to let you position them better).

Also the actual performance of the CPU/OS and browser etc can make a huge difference in the perceived performance when doing file transfers or running speed tests on the internet.

Which are all reasons why the first thing people tend to do when giving advice about trouble shooting connection speeds is to say "connect it via a wire", it eliminates a huge number of variables relating to the connection between the devices*



*As wired connections work at very well defined speeds, and are much more established and stable tech.

But it's probably not easy to do a wired connection from an ipad as it has no Ethernet port (I believe, I don't use Apple products myself).

At a guess the ipad is only 11g so 35MB is about the best you will get
If the laptop is 11n then that is probably the reason why you get 90MB for that.

Ipad2 supports Wifi N, but I haven't seen to what capacity. I would guess the basic level (single frequency, single channel), which may mean 65mb max sync speed. That means 35mb throughput speed is not unexpected.

Try switching your router to 802.11n only, but of course if you have g/b kit around that is not an option

Thanks for the suggestions. I've looked at the superhub settings and it is on n and the speed is still the same. I also changed to 5mhz and got the same speed so it looks like the ipad is limited to 35mb max.
