Quick question re payment due date

Afternoon folks,

Quick question re payment due date (for an Amex card).

My payment due date is the 7th and I've made the payment today. I've called cs and they've confirmed the payment has been approved but can't confirm if it will credit my card in time. The advisor was "99%" sure it would, but wasn't able to confirm for certain.

I don't have a direct debit set up for minimum payment (I will going forward).

I have an unblemished credit record (touch wood) but I'm slightly worried by the above.

I made a payment to clear the card on the 16th April but another debit came out on the 18th (which must have been the last day any debits would be included in this month's statement). As I made the payment of £100+, I didn't think I would need to make a payment until I logged in today and seen the above.

I can't recall how quickly any previous payments I've made credited the card so any help/guidance/reassurance would be greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks everyone!

I've had mixed results paying my cards off with my debit card, sometimes it shows up as a credit within hours, other times it takes 4 working days. I think you'll be ok considering you've contacted them about it. Direct debit for the minimum (if you can't afford to pay it off in full each month) is your safest bet, at least then you know you won't get any black marks and can pay off more if you want to.
Credit 'Score' - Don't buy the credit 'score' that Experian, Equifax and Noddle want to sell you. It's an arbitrary number that means nothing when it comes to applying for credit.

ALWAYS HAVE A DIRECT DEBIT SET UP FOR THE MINIMUM PAYMENT ON YOUR CREDIT CARDS, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER YOU PLAN TO LOGIN AND PAY EACH MONTH.

Thanks for the reply. I've recently switched bank accounts to avail of better offers so I waiting for that to be fully completed before setting up DDs on the account but your right, going forward, it's definitely the safest bet.

I just hope my payment of £35 credits by Wednesday!

My suggestion is that you make a faster payment asap. The debit card payment might well have been approved, but that doesn't mean to say they will receive the funds (and therefore credit your account) in time.

I have never made a faster payment during working hours on a working day and not had it credited same day. Where it's been outside of working hours, the payment has sometimes made it same day, but never later than the next working day. Bizarrely with Barclaycard it has sometimes been credited on the last working day prior to the day I made payment!!

With debit card payments, they have sometimes taken 1-2 days to hit the account.

    I don't currently have Amex.
  • You can make payments to AMEX up to and including the due date by either Faster payment or by calling them and using a debit card. The account will be marked as paid when you do it, though the account will not be fully updated for a couple of days. If you chose to pay using their online service on your AMEX account then it's liable to be late as that can take 2 days to be actioned.
I have paid mine by phone every month on the due date for 5+ years, never been classed as a late payment, nor been charged a £12 fee as it's classed as an on time payment.
